The Wildest Country Youve Ever Hunted From A Hotel?

I am not afraid to admit it but I sure do like to come in after an all day hunt to a hot shower, dry bed and a place that I dont have to worry about battling the elements in the middle of the night. I hunt hard but when its over for the day I like it to be over.

           To facilitate this Ive been thinking about DIY in Wyoming or Montana. Ive hunted in Sheridan before and it seemed like there was some good public land close to town. Im talking deer, either species but cow elk would do too.

          I just want a big open, wild space that I can get to in a 1/2 to 1 full hour drive from my comfy digs, well rested and caffeinated.

         I am not set on Wyo and Montana so I would love to hear what you have experienced. West of the Mississippi is my only requirement.

         For you hard core spike campers and back packers God bless you all and have at it. I sure like hearing your stories and seeing your pics it just aint my cup of tea.

I am with you brother, no tents and skeeters for me. A hot shower at the Ramada Inn, a few drinks in the bar then on to the Ribeye and baked tater. That is as rough as I can stand it.

Charlie, I aint ascared to admit I appreciate creature comforts, it comes with hard earned wisdom which you should be acquiring anyday now. Howd you make out today? I missed a squirrel a couple times losing one arrow and mushrooming another.

Where I grew up..Bridgeport,CA. The bucks are easy to find during archery season and there are few hunters but once gun season opens hang it up.

Decent hotels and food in town and you can be hunting in 15-30 minutes from it. Beautiful country! Town sits at 6200' and surrounding mountains reach 11,000+ Plus bear is open about the same time and lots of bears.

Thompson, Manitoba. My bear outfitter had problems at his camp, so he put me and my partner up at a great hotel. Room service, reastaurant tab, big, comfy beds, and satellite TV. Gave us gas money to drive to camp and back too!

The Frontier Inn, in Halsey Nebraska. 90,000 acres of National Forest ground less than 5 minutes away. Mule deer,Whitetail,Turkeys and even a good number of Antelope. It lays about dead center in the state. Archery seasons start Aug. 20th for Antelope and Sept. 15th for the rest. The drive wouldn't be as far either. Hope this helps!

Stayed at the Prudoh Bay hotel one time.  Was hunting the north slope haul road.  That's pretty remote.  430 miles to the next services

Hunting Columbian blacktails in western OR and unbelievably, the same crappy motel that stykbow67 just mentioned although it has been a bunch of years.

I have never hunted from a hotel. Always a camper. tent, or the back of my truck. With the high price of fuel, I like to live close to the game I'm hunting.

Black Hills out of a Holiday Inn Express  in Hill City SD.

Northern New Mexico or Southern Colorado. Raton, Chama or Dulce, New Mexico have great motels and many National Forests to hunt. Pagosa Springs, Bayfield or Durango, Colorado's same.

Hi Izzy,
All you need to do is head up route 9 or 87 and take a left at North Creek and have at it. If you can bring home a nice buck from that six million acre Bermuda triangle with a longbow, you have achieved greatness :-)

You sound like a guy that would enjoy the South Fork Inn west of Buffalo on Hwy 16. Hunting and fishing right out your door, and for the past couple of years they have had a gourmet cook. Plenty of mule deer, and good elk population if you can draw a tag.
