3 Rivers B50 string material?
« on: November 28, 2011, 04:24:00 PM »
I see that 3 Rivers lists there B50 as waxed. Is theirs different from others. I noticed the B50 I got from another suplier didn't seem to have much wax on it. Thanks, Don

I think B50 is B50.

Yes, if it's B50 then it's B50. I have occasionally noticed spools that don't seem to have as much wax as others.

I have noticed some rolls I have purchased seem to have more wax than others, same brand (different colors).  Perhaps a lot to lot variance?  I just add more if it needs it.

Normally it's waxed.  I use BCY materials, and order mine "lightly waxed"--they overdo it with the wax IMO.

Thanks guys, I have some B55 that seems to have zero wax and some B50 that seems to have a little on it. I have noticed when twisting strings that the strands don't hold together as good as the TS-1 and Dyna 97 but must be the nature of the beast. Adding wax helps but still have some seperation. I was thinking 3 Rivers was getting some B50 with extra wax but evidently I was mistaken. Thanks again, Don

FWIW, 3 Rivers sells some outstanding string maker's wax.  I used it in our last string making video and was very impressed with it.
