Tru oil and snake skin!
«

I just applied my first set of skins to some limbs.
Everything is going well so far and I am ready to apply tru oil. For those of you who have used this method what is the
Best way to do this.
Straight tru oil?
How many coats, and how long in between them?

I apply 5 coats of Tru Oil, rub lightly with 0000steel wool between coats. After that I like to spray a couple coats of Krylon Matte finish to cut the shine. This stuff is great!

I think I did about 7 or 8 coats on mine. I just applied it with my finger making sure it wasn't very thick. Multiple thin coats work the best. I lightly buffed between coats and let them dry at least 24 hours between coats.

RM81 thats how I apply it as well. I put my thumb
over the bottle end. Tip it upright, then apply drops of oil from my thumb to the limb. I then spread it as I wish. 3 to 5 coats. Steel wool after all cured to get flat finish. Darn nice product.

I usually apply one heavy coat and let it dry good. Then probably 7 or 9 thin coats and lightlysand in between each one. After the snakeskin is smooth I shoot a couple of coats of Spar Var on it to dull it down. I just use a square of white t shirt material to apply or fingers.
God bless, Steve

Thin coats, you can even use a coffee filter to spread it. You barely need a wee dram to apply-really a dram!
