New bow suggestions
« on: December 04, 2011, 11:52:00 PM »
Thinking about a new bow (or a new to me bow).  I need to drop weight to the #45 range and am wanting to get the most bang for the buck as far as efficiency goes.  As much as I love the Hill styles (I've got a #40 pounder and love it), there is a bit of shock to it that leaves a bum shoulder (and elbow) sore as heck the next day.

I've got a River's Edge and love it too, but the limbs are #53 and #57 pounds and that's simply too much right now.

Aside from another River's Edge, what are some of the other really good shooting bows out there?

Thanks.

Tomahawks! My other choice would be a A&H ACS longbow even though I never shot one I have heard nothing but good things about them.

Stan, I am partial to my Mohawk, shoots good with no shock and still has the D shape us longbow guys love. Good luck with it.

Have you thought about an ILF setup. All kinds of different risers plus you can change limbs, grips and settings to adjust weight, length, LB or recurve, tiller etc. all at a reasonable cost.

Try shooting a Treadway or a Hoots...both smooth, fast and not all that pricey....  :archer2:

Buy an ILF riser in the classifieds and than yur limb choices are endless. My one set-up no one could tell it was ILF unless they looked at the limb attachments. You can buy a set of SB Flute Carbon/Foam limbs and a riser for under $400 and have a bow that will perform with any out there and a breeze to tune. If you don't mind spending money a set of Border Hex5 or 6s and you willhave absolutely one of the finest limbs in the world and can go down to the 45# range and get 50# plus performance of most other bows. A few years ago I dropped from 58# recurves to a 49# ACS CX without any loss in performance, and didn't even need new arrows!

If I had to drop down to 45#'s I would definitely take Shawn advice.

My favorites are The 12" riser 3pc. ACS with 62" limbs and I just recieved a 60" Centaur Triple carbon. I think the world of these 2 bows and both shoot great.

Thank you all so much for the info.  Looks like I need to start looking at and shooting some new brand bows that I've not shot before  :)
