Hit one from under 5 yards with my home made copy of Jerry Jeffers "Mace" head with a footed Gold Tip 3555. Total tip weight 230 grains. Just bounced off. The other was hit with a 175 grain field point with a washer behind it from under 10 yards. Total tip weight again around 230 grains. Squirrel took off up a tree with my arrow sticking through it.

Them rascals are tough as nails. Nuff said I just convinced myself I need to go shoot a mess for supper. 2 hours until dark and 5 minutes from squirrels I'm outta here.

No supper for me unless the wife brings me something back from town. Bogged a judo in the side of a pine tree, easy shot but I blew it! Am I the only one who can focus better on targets than live game? It's like I get a small dose of T.P.. Saw enough squirrels to feed the whole county! Maybe next time.

watched a guy absolutely pound one with one of my stumpr jr's today and it didnt even phase it. It would have killed me dead if i took that hit.  They definatly are not for squirrel hunting as some poeple think, just stump shooting.

I've shot squirrels with just about every hunting head available, including several home made recipes. I've found nothing that will kill them dead and increase my chances of recovery better than the G5 Small Game Head. The only down side is they only come in a screw-on style. I guess you could purchase some of the adaptors for wooden arrows, but I've never tried them. I use the G5s on footed Axis shafts with excellent results.

ChuckC, The lead is a great idea.  May have to give that a try.  Do you have a suggestion for a place to purchase lead for melting?

you could try your local tire store. lots of time they have the old wheel weights from old rims they might let you have. thats what we do anyway. or you could just go buy the lead bars that guys use on there duck decoys. just a few thoughts for you. good luck

Headed to the squirrel woods in about 8 hours. I've shot one squirrel with my bow but it was while deer hunting. Tomorrow, tree rats are the main prize. I'll take my camera along....
