Hill Tembo up to bat!
« on: December 12, 2011, 07:39:00 PM »
After killing 3 deer this year with my go-to bows ... I have decided to try to make meat for the rest of the season with my Hill Tembo. I shot it well at times over the summer, but never could get a handle on the consistency I needed to feel good about it in the woods.

Well, after some time fine-tuning with a new string I made from some new TS+ material I shoot on my pronghorn and a little lighter spined arrows that I was forcing through it, I have found a combo that works very well. Now, if I can just put myself in position to get a shot! Easier said than done, I know, but I feel like I owe it to myself to get it done with a true american longbow!

Let me see some of your kills with Hill style bows! Give me some daydreaming material until I can fondly remember my own Hill kill.

I guess I can just look at the long Hill Bug thread to get my fix, but if anyone wants to post other hero shots with their hill bows I'd much appreciate it!

Good luck! I hope that Hill does you well! I shot over one this year with the Kohannah Kurve you provided in trade. That Hill was so smooth, if only I could have had the straight grip on it!

Florida hog, 68" Hill Wesley Special, 49@28". Sweet bow and tasty hog!

69" bow 53# at 29" if I remember right with a smallish locater grip, black glass and nice red cocobolo riser that stood out against the black and white of the boo and glass... yeah I liked that bow. Sorry for answering for you Scrub, but I just saw it first.

No Problem Kyle ... and you remembered correctly.

I took the built-up wrap stuff off the handle and trimmed the black leather to fit it back on just the wood. I am sort of liking the slight locator style grip.

I made a new TS+ string for it (black and cedar color .. it accents the black glass and cream colored bamboo on the edge awesomely) and I have it shooting 50-55 D Fir arrows very well with 125 gr. snuffers on the business end (a 500 gr arrow +/-).

I hunted with it this evening and had a doe and a fawn about 40 yards from me, but never got a shot. She was leery of the area and was trying to find me in my stand, as I took one of her fawns away from her there about 3 weeks ago.

We have till the end of Jan here in AL ... with the rut coming. Hopefully I will have a chance with it before the end of season.

Pics?!?!

That grip wasn't any better than the original for me. I need the full size standard hill grip on that kind of bow. I'm glad it is suiting you well. I wish you all the best in the rest of your season and of course, I will continue looking for updates!

I have never set up a place like photobucket to allow this site to recognize pics.

If I send some to your email, can you post a few of them on this thread?
