BROADHEADS??
« on: December 14, 2011, 04:42:00 PM »
I have been trying to decide what brand of broadhead I am going to use, and currently stuck between Zwickey Eskimo 2 blade, Magnus stinger 2 blade, Stos 2 blade, or the ABS Ashby broadhead. If anyone has used these broadheads and prefers or dislikes them please give a new trad archer some advice. Some pictorial proof never hurts!

they will all work.
Zwickeys are less expensive.

That Ashby is a lot heavier than the rest.
Make sure you can tune to whatever wt you choose.

Don't worry too much about what head you use.
Just get a wt that tunes to your setup.

Get the head sharp.
get the head bloody.

Like someone else said, they're all good broadheads so it just comes down to personal preference.

For me, in a two blade broadhead, I prefer a STOS. Strong, the tips don't curl, easy to sharpen and it flies great.

Never shot the Eskimos, but I like the Zwickey Deltas: cheap, easy to sharpen, kill stuff...what's not to like.

After 38years of bowhunting  I have come to love the ACE standard 160.  It has the best of every trait you can ask for in a BH- flies like field point, silent, tough as they come, easily takes and holds a hair poppin edge, penetrates any critter you would ever want to shoot, and is in expensive to boot, oh yea, made in the USA!

All good heads, I like the STOS the best out of those choices.

Have you looked at 3 blade heads? Woodsman Elites and VPA's are darn fine heads.

Those are all great heads.  You need to find the one that shoots best from your setup.  I have used Zwickey's and STOS with great results.

I have used the Magnus and the Zwickey's of those you mentioned and I liked them both.  Zwickeys were cheaper so I would go with them.

Also like the ACE heads.  But my favorite 2 blade is the eclipse.

As has been said, all good heads and all will do the job.  Given that all will do the job, I'd say go with the Zickeys as opposed to the ABS Ashby so you also have money left over for arrows to put them on.

Zwickey Deltas are my favorite. I have been testing out some VPA terminators lately. So far I am very impressed.

I would advise away from the Ashby heads, only for the reason of cost, as mentioned earlier.  If you are just starting out, any of the other broadheads you've mentioned will kill anything on this continent with authority.

If you are just starting out, you may find it easier to sharpen a straight edge broadhead i.e Zwickey Delta, Magnus I, STOS, Magnus Stinger etc.

Learn to tune your bow and tune your arrows to your bow, keenly sharpen the heads you decide on and jump in with both feet!  Ask lots of questions, this is an excellent forum for that.

Good hunting!

Kris
