Bamboo - Asbell-Style side quiver build along.....
« on: December 20, 2011, 08:11:00 AM »
Hello,

ive had the idea for this quiver for quite some time and yesterday evening i went to the shop and just started.

Cant say if alls gonna work out as id like it to, as im not finished yet but i thought id show you the process anyways. So bear with me...

Note: I normally dont work after plans but just let it flow (i didnt use a measuring tape once with this quiver     ;)   ) and i try to keep all low-budget, so there might be better solutions to some issues. anyways here it is:

Ive took a plastic container and smoothed down the edges

Then ive sewn a cover for it out of an old woolen army blanket

Next ive taken two bamboo shafts and glued them into pieces of thicker pieces of bamboo.
Just for cosmetics ive wound the joint with B50 string material

And sometimes our dreams they float like anchors in hopeless waters oh way down here
Sometimes it seems that all that matters most are all the things that you can't keep

on another thick piece of bamboo ive marked the slot for a arrow-gripper-unit from Selway and the spots for two holes

Ive cut the slot and drilled the holes, then ive put the arrow grippers in, filled the space below with a piece of wood and filled everything with epoxy (sorry, forgot to tae pics of the single steps)

First test assembly:

Ive marked the center of the top-ends of the bamboo on the box, drilled holes and screwed the box to the bamboo

marking the spots for yet some more holes

drill more holes:

Then i took more B50 material and crosswound through 4 holes in the box and two in the bamboo till everythings rock-solid. For added security ive smeared it down with epoxy

To secure the arrow gripper and the shafts in place ive wound everything with B50 and tried to make it look good.

Then everything (except the box) was finished with some laqucer and hung to dry.

After that ive sewn the wool-cover around the two bamboosticks and pushed a replacement foam for bowquivers in. It sits very thight and wont come out when arrows will be pulled.

Now i have the straps on and am semi finished.

Im pleased so far. Its rocksolid, lightweight and comfortable to wear.
I also could pack 8 arrows in if id use two piggy backers on the slim bamboosticks.

I think im gonna attach  different kind of strap. The one i used is comfortble and i can adjust length but i think there could be a better  looking solution.

Perhaps ill also try to attch a small possibles bag to it.

Thanks for looking,
Axel

Alex,
Now that's using your Noggin! Nicely done and this may have to be moved to the "How To" section so everyone can make one!

That's a fun read and inspiring to boot.  Trying to think of a way to make arrow grippers without having to resort to a commercial solution.
