Bocote/Phenolic Kanati
« on: December 22, 2011, 06:59:00 PM »
I had a customer call me from Califonia last summer and I let him talk me in to a Bocote/Phenolic Kanati. I was a bit concerend at first due to my allergies to most exotics but I figured I would put on a hazmat suit if needed    :D

As most know, I am kind of a keep-it-simple bow builder but building the "Fancy" bows like this very rewarding when all goes as planned.

Special thanks to Lefty Fred (Mike at Rosewood) for picking out some pretty woods for me to use.

Sorry for the poor pics, its to cold outside to lean it against the tree   :D

Wow! That is a beauty! How did you get along with the bocote, Jason? Is this a wood your allergies will let you use?

Jason, that is awesome!  I just sprayed a phenolic/Bocote this afternoon...also from Rosewood.  Kinda funny!  I'm really liking that riser layout/combo you have in that bow.  Again, Great job!!!

I hate it Russ!  :D   Well, it's not bad. In the limbs I can handle it fine it's just the handle shaping that gets me. Bocote plugs me and my tools up bad. If I go with fancy stuff on a regular basis for next year I am leaning toward going back to Dymondwood with a 1/4" phenolic accent stripe to give me a little flex in the fadeouts..

Jared, I would like to see a picture of yours too, Mike sure has some nice woods!

If it were my bow, I would have left off the phenolic towards the back and just had the 5/8" part in the middle but the customer wanted mostly phenolic. I think he will be pleased.

Jason, I love your bows having shot several. They perform as well as any $1000.00 bow but alas I am a bow pimp and I need my bows in exotic veneers and other loud and flashy accoutrements. Your on to something now. Now Ill be waiting for you to unveil your ziricote riser and snakewood backed Kanati. Congrats on a beautiful build.

Jason, that looks awsome bro. Very nice. I have a hard time with bocate too. I love the look but can't handle it. Mac causes me problems too and some of the walnut. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. All my fav woods . Very sweet bow though and love that combination.

God bless you and Merry Christmas, Steve
