Christmas Eve Day in Wyoming(cool mule deer pics)
« on: December 25, 2011, 12:17:00 PM »
My wife and I decided to go for a hike. The weather was very mild which was a nice change. We have been below freezing for most of December. It was a bit windy but that is why it was nice warm winds and 43 degrees out. We went to the BLM land in Oregon Basin. These sage brush areas are usally loaded with rabbits. Its been a couple of bad years and I only cut a few tracks and never seen a rabbit. With two dogs you usally kick something up but nothing. So I just did some stump shooting. Here are some pictures of our day.

Getting ready at the truck.

Hikeing through the sage brush sea.

Glamour shot.

On the way home we started to see some wildlife. We came across a small herd of antelope. They are just starting to grow back there horns. As we got closer to home I drove buy a field that usally has a lot of deer. It is a beat field that has been harvested. The deer eat the Tabacoo like leaves. It is funny to watch the long leaves hanging out of there mouths. There where mostly Whitetails with 4 good bucks in the bunch. They where to far away for pictures. But as we went around the corner I seen this cool dude!

Whats Up!

He has very narrow rack but has some mass and height.

His side view shows off his wierd rack. I seen him acroos a field the other day from a long ways away. I had no binos on me. I thought he was a rag horn bull! But I knew there should be no elk in the area and finally decided he was a Muley for sure. Even though this guy would not score good I would love to shoot him with my bow!

Here is one last look before we head out.

Thanks for sharing Scott.

I was out also yesterday looking for bunnies. I covered well over five miles and only saw a few tracks. Our rabbit population seems to be at a low.

I think I'll come help next year.
When the last deer disappears into the morning mist,
When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

Hey Scott,

He looks like a reindeer from the side!  Then again maybe I've had too much wine and too many cookies    :dunno:

Merry Christmas!

Looks like a great day!
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
