Turned my spot into a park!!!
« on: December 26, 2011, 07:42:00 PM »
I knew it couldnt last. I managed to find a spit of un-claimed public land along side some sewer property. It wasnt much but it was my honey hole and there was some big bucks moving through there and no one else knew about it. Over night (or over rifle season actually) the parks department must have petitioned for it, and got it. I went out this afternoon for the start of late archery season and my spot was dotted with yellow signs. "NO Hunting this is now park property. Effective immediately" type thing. They even went so far as to put a sign on every available tree that stood around the log that I sit on. So I could see one no matter what direction I was looking. Nice touch. Must have saw my butt print.

happens here every year,,,now while the other folks will surely pack up and leave you should find the edge of the property where the deer are coming into that posted piece and set up within legal distance from that property line, unless they are bedding in there and staying in there BUT I know come rut time those bucks will stray away towards you if you call or use scents.

with us we need to be 50yds from someones property line with a bow..  don't leave yet things may get better for you.

There is a little spot that I still have access to on the other side of the creek but the deer arent crossing this late in the season. Its kind of a dead  end that backs up to suburbia and the does dont want to get cornered by the bucks. Other than that I risk getting caught trespassing. I have to find a new spot. And quick! Think Im gonna check out this one recreation area. Has signs hung all over it too. But these ones say "Archery Hunting Permitted"  :)

This happens all too often. I'm always looking for new spots to hunt, you never know when your honey hole will disappear. Good luck finding another spot!

The town I grew up in now has archery hunting areas in almost all the larger parks in town.  Way too many deer for the plantings to last.  Maybe you could suggest that as a solution.

Sorry to hear you have lost your hunting spot!  It is happening here in upstate NY as well.  Land that I have been hunting since I was a boy is getting sold to others, they post it, and make it off limits to even bow hunters.  Keep your chin up though... there has to be another great spot somewhere for you!  Good luck!

My huntin spots are going away as we speak! One was perty well clear cut, one is getting logged ( 470 or so trees off 65 acres) and seems like every piece of ground is leased to somebody with more money than me. Startin to get kinda depressing. So I feel your pain!

Did you happen to contact parks and rec to confirm the signs are legit?  Might be someone ELSE saw those big bucks.  Unfortunately, I've seen fake signs too many times to not confirm with the folks that supposedly put them up.

Good luck in either case!

One day, a big area that I hunt had a bunch of fish and game signs put up that announced that the area was now closed to hunting.  I was so mad I called the fish and game.  They told me the area was in fact open to hunting and they had not put out any signs.  It's definately worth checking, especially if the signage seems over the top.

Doesn't seem right, what gov worker would haul more then one sign, one nail, and one small hammer. Call to confirm. Have found no trespassing signs that were not legit before. Hard to tell though, these were on my property so I was pretty sure.

well that just sucks.....
A couple of years ago I went to hang my stand over an elk wallow in a dark damp draw only to find it clear cut.

Did You check to see if it was legit? I knew a guy once that posted some land like that to keep others out.

Crappy thing to do but Big Bucks make slobs do funny things.
