Kauai, Hawaii...BOOKED
« on: December 30, 2011, 12:36:00 PM »
First a sincere Thank You to Steve Hohensee and Dan Russell to motivate this...

After 2 plus years of being a complete cheap arse, I just booked 2 weeks (August) on sun (and rain) soaked Kauai for our family (Wife boys and I) vacation and my wife told me to get lost on the Na Pali Coast mountains for 3-4 days to hunt goats/pigs along with sleeping in the most beautiful place on the planet under the stars, and leave them to explore the island.

What a great way to end the year, and start the new one, on a positve note.

So far, traveling with me on this trip will be my Two Tracks Ambush 1 piece recurve and some home grown Motor City Macheties, stuffed in my hard sided golf club case.  Best part is I can leave the wool clothes at home.  Next on the agenda is purchasing some Sitka Gear ascend pants and core long sleve top.  Anybody have some 34-36" pants and XL tops they care to part with (sell)?

Now, back to being a cheap arse to fund the rest of it.

Awesome!  I'm looking at tickets for my honeymoon right now for Hawaii.  Not cheap but it looks like an awesome place.

Best place we have found each time we travel to the islands (this will be our 3rd time back) is Expedia.com  The more you book, the cheaper it is.  Air/Hotel/Car is only $10 more than airflight only.

Hawk22, if you get an Alaska airlines credit card you can get a companion airfare for $99. Takes a little of the bit out. My wife and I upgraded to first class and it was well worth it. If yjou have a layover in Seattle you can use the Alaska airlines hospitality room free with first class airfare.

You're gonna have a great time Mike.  be warned, bowhunting in warm places is highly addictive!

Hey Mike...good for you. I love the Islands. Good luck to you. Now, let me point out that I am sometimes amazed by the humility shown by fellow Trad Gangers. DHR posted a short and sweet message, but failed to mention that he has an article in this months TBM, that I just got in the mail today. Great article and great photos, by one of our own. And, imagine this...it is about the very trip that you just booked Mike. I suggest that it would be a good read for you in preparation for your trip. Nice job DHR, and it's OK to toot your own horn once in a while.
And Mike, I'd like to hear more about your plans...maybe we can talk at the MLA banquet.
Best regards,
Chuck

Or come up for a bit.  Join me in the Motor City Machete shop.  It's just a couple miles north.

If I don't see you in Kzoo, I will see you at the Banquet for sure.

I will be at the Motor City Machete shop about 8 tomorrow morning...sipping Kona coffee and getting the whole scoop.

Looking forward to your trip Mike and the next one

Chuck--I need to know more about your handle.  I spent two of the best weeks of my life up there.

Steve O...
I wish my handle had something to do with the Yukon. My brother and a good friend back in New Jersey started calling me Yukon because of my need to be in the outdoors, and my comfort level in the woods and on the streams. They started calling me Yukon Cornelius, and that got shortened to just Yukon, which is what they call me now. When I signed up for Trad Gang, I just used it as my handle. Sorry, wish it was a better story.

Uummm, I think I may need to be along on this field testing operation just to watch the Ambush under the warm, sunny, pig and goat filled conditions that Hawaii has to offer. And maybe look for that "local" archery team Mark mentioned above.

Sounds great Mike, I really hope you and the Family have a great Time AND, I really do wish I was going with you.
Maybe I will get to go to Canada for a BEAR HUNT  :saywhat:    :wavey:
