Feather removal
«
on:
January 01, 2012, 09:23:00 PM »
I use Gold tip Traditional carbon arrows with 5" feathers using fetching tape.
Aside from scraping (which concerns me about possibly damaging the shaft) is there a solvent or solution that may make this process easier without harm to the arrow shaft?
Thanks,
Mark

Try hot water or steam.

I think a hair dryer would work for you too.

Thanks, certainly never thought of either of those options.
Best regards,

Both hair dryer and steam will work great. I have done both on Alumn arrows before I turned to woodies for My shafts. BTW, the hair dryer also works on woodies..

You should be able to just pull the feather off. Only need to worry about the glue dabs.

great ideas. I have lurked here for a long time but I never seem to need to post any questions because anything I need to ask is always answered before I ask it!

I use an electric space heater to remove my feathers. Most of my feathers have been reused at least once.

Because I use the fletching tape the "dab" is feather length and that's what requires the most scraping and potential damage.
Still love the fletching tape. Holds great and I can fletch a half dozen faster than I used to be able to do one.
Thanks,
Mark
