Fletching tape Yeah another question
« on: January 04, 2012, 08:41:00 PM »
Ok read all the previous topics on fletch tape but didn't see an answer to my question.

The feathers quill is wider on the front than the back of the quill so does the tape stick out past the quill on the sides or is it narrower than the quill?

Both! Just depends. I use full lengths then cut to 4" so that means I get 2 feather from each full length. Some quills are wider than the tape and some are narrower. I just put it on and dab glue on each end and go! Tape is all I use and love it. It's just so much faster!

Yep. No issues though.  Drop of glue in front and back and you are done.

After I tape my feathers on I'll wrap the ends with sinew

Sometimes I take a small pair of scissors and trim the front wide quill on one side to form a small V.I don't trim the feather just a small snip on one side.I center the tape along the quill whether it overlaps or leaves a little of the quill exposed that tape will hold.A drop of glue at tip and base of feather completes the fletch.

Great, thanks for the info. Looks like it's worth giving it a try then.

Thanks again!
