Trad Expo in the West?
« on: January 05, 2012, 11:29:00 AM »
Does anyone know of any attempt still being made at having an annual trad expo somewhere in the Rockies/West?

I know the one in Ontario, OR, went by the wayside a few years ago, but I find it hard to believe that I can't find any news about another one.

I have poked around and talked to a few folks who said that they don't think there is enough interest to have a Trad Expo out west.   Our overall population is smaller than back east which means smaller numbers of trad archers as well.

I would think that a Trad Expo would need to be coordinated  with the Western States Rondevous or some other function to bring in enough trad folks to make it worth the vendors time and expense.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured. It's too bad.

Perhaps that is kind of what the Idaho Traditional Bowhunters is trying to revive with their annual "Traditional Day" (sorry if the name is wrong).   It will be in Boise, on Feb 11th, I believe.   This is their 3rd annual event, and to quote, "is designed to rekindle the fire and drive" of fellow trad bowhunters and promote the sport.   I am scheduled to perform there, and they have plenty of space for vendors....I think it may even be at the same venue as the last Trad Expo was held.   Hopefully someone from Idaho will see this and give their 2 cents...

I'm from Idaho, and I even tried to join ITB a while back, with no results (but that's another story...).

I was wondering what the deal was with the event that you're talking about, but I went to their website, and didn't really see any info about it, other than a date. If it is an attempt to keep some sort of expo alive, then I'm glad to hear it.

Alas, I'll be away on business that weekend.

If a trad expo ever became a reality I would definately look to attend.  I think it could have a lot more draw if it was held in conjunction with a 3D or some kind of fun shoot.
