The story-
I had a wild plan to hunt where some deer had been comin across the gravel road on the north lease . I parked by the neighbors house and walked 150 yds down thru the beanfield, looping around so the deer didn't cross where I walked before the shot op.
As if they read the play book, at 4:40, 3 does come over the far hill and gallop to the road. Confidently, the 1st one crossed and walked right out in front of where I sat in my double Bull chair nestled in some pinoaks, with a cedar cut and propped up in front.
My plan was to shoot before they hit the scentstream. This can bite you if a buck you want is bringing up the rear.
At the shot(which I thought was low and forward) she took off at full throttle, giving a high jump as she went over the hill in the beanfield.
One doe went with her,the other stood across the road, knowing something was wrong here. She finally followed , so I walked out and picked up the arrow that snapped off when she took off.
Not too good on penetration, I thought. I would find later that it hit the legbone on the far side and bounced back partway.
Here is what I saw when I topped the little hill...
