...It has been a really good year for me. I started off on a tear with my wheelie bow. I took two does first two weekends, and decided to hold off because I wanted to save one tag because I was getting the trad itch, and thought I might get a bow and give it a try this year. I did my homework with the help of this site and Kentucky TJ, and my tall tines arrived on October 20th. That Saturday (22nd)I met up with my target buck and filled my buck tag. I had watched him grow since May and was a nice 125-130ish 4 year old 9pt. As soon as he went down I thought to myself I wish I had my recurve. The next week I found myself at TJ's again tuning, cutting arrows, and trying to soak up all the knowledge TJ was pouring out. I came home practiced every night for 5 nights and went hunting with a comfort zone of 15yds. Ever since that next Saturday I have been packing the tall tines every chance I have had, putting my beagles on stand by, as well as my crappie fishing buddies. I have had 2 really nice bucks inside of 10 yards since and lots of young 2 year old bucks but with no buck tag I watch in amazement. Ive only seen 2 does since then and both were 100yds away. My camera started getting some doe activity with a couple of young bucks last week so I took off work today hoping to get a chance.
I climbed in the stand around 6:25 this morning and at 6:35 I hear a limb snap behind me on the left but I ignore it thinking "squirrel". I hear another snap closer so I turn to see a doe already at 14 yards and heading strait for the base of my tree. She gets to the base and walks strait out in front of me. I stand up and get my bow, put a little tension on the string and wait. After what seemed like an eternity she turns enough that I feel comfortable. While she stood at 10 yards I raise my bow arm slowly to point at her and begin my draw. I hit my anchor focusing on a imaginary spot that lined up with the off shoulder and released. The lighted nock was beautiful in flight as it disappeared from sight behind the shoulder only to reappear as it exited and landed on the ground. The deer mule kicked and ran off the ridge into a brier thicket and toppled over about 60 yards away. I sat there and took it all in for a few minutes and then headed down the tree to inspect my prize. As I was walking out in a small food plot to take off my harness and back pack I noticed the sun rise and thought a pic of the tall tines was in order.
I started the tracking job even though I thought I saw the deer go down. A couple of feet from the shot I saw this.
The there was a 10 yard gap of no blood then this
and this
and this all the way to the deer.
Here are the hero shots. I'm hooked for sure. I owe a big thank you to TJ for helping me out so much this year. If he hadn't been so helpful I may never have bought that tall tines and woulda missed out on this. 58" 55# Tall Tines recurve, 400 trad only arrows with 50gr. inserts and 150gr.
