Dave Paxton, Talon longbows, passed away
« on: January 07, 2012, 08:06:00 PM »
Many guys are still shooting longbows or the Swift recurve built by bowyer Dave Paxton.  He had a fine talent for bow building.  I was sorry to receive word this evening of Dave's passing.  Several years ago I wrote a bowyer interview with Dave for TBM.  I found him among the most knowledgeable bow makers of all that I did interviews with.  His shop was just a small little rustic building back in the woods of West Virginia on a road appropriately named Stave Branch Road.  He was always fun to visit with and talk bows, old time archers, and look at all the neat things he had made for his own hunting use, although he would be quick to tell you, "I am not the world's foremost hunting archer."
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.

Sad day.

I've always felt fortunate to own a  Talon longbow. Unique but simple design and a great shooter.

Hadn't shot my two Talon Classic longbows for a long time.  Dusted them off last Saturday and had a wonderful time shooting.  God bless the Paxton family - peace be with you.

Man, I am sorry to hear about Dave. I used to own and hunt with one of Dave's Talon Longbow. I actually talked to him a couple of times over the phone. Condolences to his family.

My thoughts and prayers for family and friends who loved him.

Give them your peace Father.

Sorry to hear about Dave, my first custom longbow was a Talon. I remember meeting Dave at the Great Lakes Longbow Inventational the last year it was held in Marshall Michigan.

Very sorry to hear this.  Not a LB shooter, but did own one of his Talon's for a while. I remember the TB article about him, that's what inspired me to own one of his bows.

T&P to the family.

I had a Talon longbow for a while. Ron LaClair used to sell them and it was a nice shooting bow.
