Help with caribou outfitter on newfoundland?

Hello one and all. Macsdad and I are getting ready to plan a trip to newfoundland for caribou and moose. I have hunted there before and took a nice moose but the area I hunted in was not a good choice for caribou. I would love to hear from some folks who have had a good experience with caribou outfitters. Preferably those who hunt both species. I know numbers are down but from what I can ascertain tags have been cut way back and success rates are still high on big bulls. I have heard good things about tony tuck and will be contacting him but any other suggestions would be great. Many thanks in advance!

Caribou closed to non residents at present on Newfoundland. Unless something has changed very recently. Best check that out, I had six friends all hunt there this past Sept. All got moose and there were 0 non resident caribou tags again this year.

I had looked on tonies sight and he emailed me some info but never said anything about caribou being closed. That is great info to know and I appreciate the heads up. I was going to call out that way today anyhow, I will see what the forecast is. Thank you!

It was my understanding that caribou hunting on the mainland, Labrador was curtailed for the migrating herds there. On the island, Newfoundland, the caribou on non migratory and I thought, although I may have misunderstood, that they can still be hunted.

Fred Eichler did a caribou hunt through Ironbound Outfitters. You should check out that show. I will try to find the DVD and let you know the exact one that it's on.
Check out Ironbound Outfitters website.

thanks b glass, I will check it out. I just got off the phone with tony tuck and he said they have tags but very few are being allocated at this time. He is already booked through 2013 but he assured me that if there are still tags available when the time comes in 2015 that we would be first in line. Tony really seems like he has his ducks in a row, very personable over the phone and very informative. He also enjoys hunters with traditional equipment. Now lets hope that the caribou population remains stable. Tony also said that based on the amount of animals he is seeing he believes the population is either stable or on a slight upswing so I will cross my fingers for the latter. thanks one and all for the info
