Guys,

See my post bottom of page 6, you are welcome to stop by for breakfast, lunch or dinner, your only five minutes off of HWY 402 to my place. Just let me know what your ETA and date. I'm not sure what dates you guys are travelling? Only dates I'm not around are Sep 1,2&3. Rest of time I'd be happy to feed you guys and chat while you have a bite.

hey guys - I've been on a lot of out of state hunts over the last 15 years, Colorado a lot, South Dakota, New Mexico, Kansas, Missouri ..... I haven't been this excited about a hunt since my Dad and I backpacked into Colorado in 1995 !

Can I bring my electric espresso machine ? I can make everyone latte's and cappuccino's   :goldtooth:   heck I can even bring a few shots of caramel, almond and hazlenut and we'll have a Camp Kat Starbucks !

I read something a few pages back that I'm very curious to challenge ....... and that is running down and heading off a group of caribou. For some reason, I liek to make things as difficult as possible for myself, and the idea that I can't glass a group, catch up and head them off ? That's like a moth to the flame for me !

Brad,
If you could run as fast as Bo Jackson you could not do an end run on caribou that are walking.

Once you see them moving you will understand. Now if they are feeding slowly, not MOVING moving, of course you can get in front...but if they are walking, they are traveling faster than you can run by a long shot.

If they are migrating, which they should be at that time, you shouldn't have to run ahead..you just glass from high where a group is walking, and then go to a pinch point- rocks, trees, etc in that path, and more will be following that same bunch you glassed very soon.

Brad,

If you challenge yourself into trying that, you will be very dissapointed and not have a very enjoyable hunt. I have talked to several people and they all agree with what Ray said. You will never be able to run down migrating caribou that are on a walk. Many have tried and found it to be true. Like Ray says. Glass for them to see their route and find a place near that route and wait. More will be coming on the same path. It has been that way for centuries.

Man two weeks and I will nearly be to your house Brad by this time. Are you pumped yet. We will all three be asking are we there yet by the time we get to Raddison.LOL

Nakohe, congrats on your hunting trip. How are you packing your bow and are you taking a spare bow? What kind of rain gear are you taking? Im leaving on the 28th to Alaska. Im debating on wether to take a spare bow or spare limbs. Not sure yet. Good Luck. Gilbert

Hey Gilbert, Thanks, I have soft t/d cases for my bows and I bought my rain gear off of three rivers site. Plus I have some wools. Good luck on your hunt also.

I just looked at the website maps. Which camp are we going to be in? Does anyone know yet. I am also following the migration satellite maps. I konw they are no precise, but so far it looks good for our time there. The lakes and rivers of Lac Minto will run red with caribou blood if all goes well. I get goose bumps and such an adreiline rush just thinking about it. 13 more days and the dance begins. HOOOOOORAY!!!!YEEEEHAW!!! AND YIPIEEEEEEEE!!!

only one more monday guy's,and the next one were off.Time is drawing nigh.I have been sharpening broadheads knives and trying to fine tune my shooting. It always takes a turn for the worse right before a big hunt. But it seems to always return when hair is the target.I'll be completly packed after this weekend I hope.Don,I should have a police escort organized for you when you get close to jonesboro. Then again as pumped as you are you may have a police escort if you don't keep that ford down.  :D

Blacktail would be a better choice. One shot is all you need so I would say you will do fine Brad.  :D

how many days until we leave ??

 :)

I shot well out to 40 yards tonight. Not bad on my release, which is what I'm struggling with.

I jumped into my neighbors pasture and chased his horse from one end to the other. Its not easy to be honest, and more difficult than I'd though. Still, I've not abandoned chasing down a migrating herd of bulls just yet. I packed runners flats, a pair of Nike cross trainers with cleats and of coure, unless its stickery, I'll more than likely just hunt barefooted.

Ya'll aint never seen a bowhunter like me before  :)

That is just sick Brad. You need thearapy.LOL. I do not think you want to be barefooted up there in that spongey stuff. All wet and cold might not do you good.  :bigsmyl:
