Silvertip longbow question
« on: January 16, 2012, 11:04:00 PM »
Hi.I am relatively new to archery and definetely new to collecting bows.I was looking at Silvertip longbows.Correct me if I am wrong, the current bowyer is Dave Windauer? Are these bows as good as Schafer?Same value?(not sentimental but in terms of shootability etc).Any info or pics would be apreciated.

Are you referring to the one-piece longbow, or full TD (3 pc) bows?

For shootability, these bows are unbeatable and 100% as good as the vintage ones by Paul.

For value, they are worth as much or more in some cases. Dave has done an excellent job advancing the design while keeping them "Schafer".

I'm not sure if he's still building the one-piece. The 3 piece TD is currently popular it seems.

I've had the take-down and the one piece when Dave first started making them,an have sold them both,I wish I had the one piece back,They're great bows an easy to shoot but they're getting very expensive,I just decided to stay with widow.. I kept this pic If I ever get a chance to get her back...

Dave Windauer worked for Paul for a while before Pauls accident and thankfully took over and continued making Silvertips afterwords.

I have 3 of Pauls's bows and have 1 of Daves (but have shot and owned others). ALL Silvertips are shooters and made to hunt, period. I do think Dave has taken it to the next, and highest level, in terms of craftsmanship and fit/finish, etc.. Pauls was a craftsman too but Dave is the best.

What Mike said and more! Dave is an Awesome Bowyer/artist ! His workmanship is 2nd to none! The Silvertips  were are designed TO HUNT! Most Shootable recurve that I have tried todate. I've been shooting them, almost exclusively since 1982 . And well, Beth is just the Nicest and Prettiest Gal that i know of in Montana .

Working with Beth is a pleasure, they don't come any better. I have 2 Silvertips and that has been all I've hunted since I got the first one in 05 with the exception of a little time with vintage Bears.
