brush buttons

Are they necessary?  Seems like they would cause string slap and unwanted noise.

I like em..used them for past 26yrs..have em on all my bows and never had any string slap or additional noise...I find they help..if anything..my two cents

I wouldn't hunt without them.  In my experience, they quiet a bow if installed correctly.

I've had some on a couple of bows. I don't like em.  I don't need them for their intended brush-blocking purpose and they add weight to my bowstring that I don't want.  They also crack (the brand I have) after a while.

I switched to stick tamers, like them better.

I have them on all my recurves. They deffinately help to ward off branches and brush. Especially in the morning when you can't see as good. I think they help to quiet a bow.

I think everybody has said it but...Very Noisy! I tryed them several differant ways with the same results. The stik tamers look interesting. Might try them.

I've seen the stick tamers that Oldskool is talking about. They do a good job on his bow without adding noise. Good idea, I just haven't gotten around to putting them on my recurve.

Can't find stick tamers, tried but no luck. Could one of you guys that use them or know of them let me know where to find them.

when I was a kid in Michigan in the 60's it seemed like everyone used them including me, but I havent used them in 20 years. I personally havent had much problem with hanging up in brush

I use them and never noticed any noise. Wool puffs and Brush buttons have made all my recurves just as silent as they can be. I even have used them on a few hybrid longbows with good results. When at Ray Hammonds I slipped threw the thick stuff in the swamp with my Zipper with no hang ups thanks to my Brush Buttons......

I too have used them and came to find that indeed they add noise. If you want the best of both worlds try "bow jax" string dampeners and position them just as you would the brush buttons. They will reduce noise and do a fairly good job of deflecting grass, brush and the like.

The small size mushrooms from Limbsavers work great. Very quiet. Poke a hole & pull your string thru with a hairpin.

Stick Tamers from 3 Rivers work better than brush buttons. They don't go on your string
