I've been away from this place way too long. Reading Marty's post about all the great people on here got me thinking that of all the places I've avoided the past few months, this is one I made a very poor decision about.
I don't want to make excuses, but I need put an explanation out there.
My wife and I found out last August that we were expecting a second child. As with the first, things did not start well for her and we suspected something wasn't quite right. We came to the stark reality that we were going to have a child with severe health problems if he (yes we found out the sex)even made it full term. Well, to make a long story short we lost the pregnancy. We are fine, life will go on, but we came away with a deeper appreciation for those of you out there that have children with disabilities. Until you live it, you can not possibly realize the sacrifices you must make as individuals and as a family. My heart goes out to all of you that live with this on a daily basis.
St. Judes takes on a whole different meaning these days. I plan to get involved at some point but I still need a little time as everything is still too fresh in my mind. While visiting Children's Hospital of Philadelphia I saw a part of life I knew existed but tried to gracefully stay away from. Call it afraid, call it insecure, it doesn't matter. The people that dedicate their lives to this stuff deserve a lot more recognition than they get.
My wood bows feel different in my hand now. Its all about loving the simplicity of the equipment and the hours of preperation it takes to make those simple tools so effective. My love for the traditional ways are what are bringing me through all this. Turning out some beautiful woodies for a friend, or tearing up as my three year old insists on pulling and holding Daddy's arrows.....appreciate it all cause it can turn in a second.
I want to end on a more positive note and let you all know my whole season hasn't been a bust. I took my first deer with my own hand built tapered fir arrow and put down a handful more on video although I have a bit to learn in that department. My highlight was taking a 4.5 y.o. warrior with my Kota. I don't care for numbers, but if he didn't have 20 inches of broke bone, he'd made book.
