Foot Platform Options for Web type tree stands???
« on: January 23, 2012, 08:14:00 PM »
First, let me say hello. I've been reading the forum for at least five years, but just recently joined. So, while I may be new to all of you, many of you are quite familiar to me through your posts that I've read over the years.
Here is my question: I own two of the web/suspension type tree stands; a Tree Saddle and a Guido's Web. The more I use them the more I like them. The one problem I haven't got solved yet to my satifaction is what to use for a platform for my feet. Currently I'm using some folding screw-in steps that work ok, but it takes too much time and effort to install them once I'm up the tree. In addition with four of them there isn't enough area for my feet to be comfortable for extended sits.
After doing some research I think that the way to go is to use several strap on style steps (6 or so) on a single strap. Now my problem is to find a source of strap on steps. Any suggestions???
Thanks.
Kevin

Kevin, I think ameristep makes some strap on steps.  I believe there were some for sale in the classified on this web site (under tree stands, etc) but they might have sold and I think it was a whole set.  I have seen a mini strap on platform, since you just using it as a rest instead of supporting your whole weight on it, it may work for you.

The strap on steps if you can't find in the classified you can get from some big retailer (BPS) or these ones
    https://www.climbpaws.com/productcart/pc/climbpaws-default.asp?

or a mini tree stand like the the lone wolf assassin
   http://www.lonewolfhuntingproducts.com/shopping/products/assassin__asnc.aspx

Unfortunatly neither of these options are cheap. maybe you can someone to make you something like these or find something at the local metal recyclers.

hope this helps
Tim

Maybe a torges style seat would work?

Cant you  use a 12-14" 2x4 with a ratchet strap mounted on the back of it.

Thanks for the ideas. I've tried to contact Climb Paws a couple of times, but can't seem to get a response from them.
I'll check out the Torges Seat.
Never thought of using 2X4's....I can see where they would work, but I would prefer to have a wider base for my feet. Maybe though I'm not visualizing correctly what you are suggesting.

Kevin if your tree is 12" at the point you hang, then a 2x4 2 or 3" wider on each side would look like a T or a ladder rung and your feet would rest on the ends that go past the tree trunk.

I've got some climb paws that work really well. They are really comfortable and quiet. I'm thinking about building some more myself. They look pretty simple to make.

lpcjon2...thanks for explaining. I can see where that would work quite well.
looper...
How did you contact Climb Paws? I can't get ahold of them via email or phone.
Thanks.

Sometimes you can find strap on steps in the classifieds.  If you've been snooping around this site for five years, some were available about a year ago when I bought mine.  I think I ended up with about 30.  For small trees, I only need a strap of three or four, more for larger ones.

Kevin,I have been using 1 or 2 Summit buck steps strap ons for my top steps ,along with a couple screw ins. Seem to work fine for me.
