under armour cold or hot gear for limb socks?
« on: January 24, 2012, 06:39:00 PM »
gday guys, having never seen this material before do you think it would be suitable for use as limb sock material? i don't want it to hold much water in wet weather. i plan on making myself some limb socks like the spandex ones from 3rivers only i want them to cover some of the riser also.
i found a place where i can buy the material by the yard.
which would be more suitable, hot gear or cold gear?

I've thought that same thing. I also found a place that sells that funky tape they use to hold the guaze on after you give blood, in black color. I'm gonna wrap on for the limbs and use an old black UA shirt to make a cover for my quiver hood to use in the blind this turkey season! The tape (you know what I'm talking about if you have given blood!) sticks like crazy to itself but won't leave a residue on the limbs. Will give it a while to see how it will hold up.

cold gear is much thicker...I would probably go with the hot weather under armor. It is not waterproof though...

doesn't need to be waterproof. just don't want it to soak up too much water. sounds like the hot gear is the go. it's mainly to protect the bow against dings and scratches from the ground when i go tahr hunting again. there is alot of scrambling involved and the bow gets knocked around a bit.

hey dwarf, does it stretch much? it would be good to get a tight fit.

Sounds like a good idea, my only thought is that I've noticed that the UA fabric has a sheen to it.  It seems to me like that might be to "shiny".  I like to blood donor tape idea.  Post some pics when you have a chance, there may be others that want to try it.

The only problem I can see is when you try and sew it it has an elastic(like spandex)type material that you may have a hard time creating a tight fit where the seam doesnt keep spliting.the material is also kinda thin.
Have you looked into a rash guard(protective surf shirt) for surfers?

UA makes a color called timber (brown) & another called sage (green), both are very dull in color
