is minwax oil based satin wipe on softer than gloss?

Hi,

I'm going to be making up some arrows soon.
I've used minwax oil based wipe on gloss in the past and had good results.

I'm thinking for the next batch to use a few seal coats of gloss ( because I've heard it seals better than satin)

Then doing a few final coats of satin to get the shine down a bit.

My question is whether the satin finish is softer ( more prone to target wear) than the gloss.

you wont get a burn it will be more like wear,
the wipe on stuff is a very thin coat.
i used to use that stuff to seal the shafts so i can do my dip caps. then after the dip/crest do a final dip in real poly or hardwood floor finish for a true seal!

i found that just doing afew coats of gloss then scuffing them down with a scotch bright pad works best.
the satin will seal just as good as the gloss the "satin" part is just the sheen basically is a soft gloss

I use wipe on poly and it works great the satin is just the amount of shine. and as mentioned light sanding with steel wool or scratch pad between coats is best. you can do more coats with wipe on poly than dip, you dont get the build up.

Yes, stain will be a little less durable and probably more prone to target wear.

Any gloss is a tougher product.

I either build all the way up with coats of gloss, then one thin coat of satin....or just use gloss all the way then steel wool a bit to knock down shine.

Keep in mind some poly will not work with other types of paints ans such,make sure its all compatible.some poly can make certain cresting run(sharpie markers fo instant).

Like Curt said, a couple swipes through a pad of steel wool and Shazam,  satin.

The glossy finish is harder. I believe it is the purer product, they use additives to knock down the shine which makes the less glossy variants not as hard.  Just use steel wool to get a nice satin finish.
