My New Robertson
« on: January 29, 2012, 10:05:00 AM »
I've been drooling over Robertson Styks for a long time now. It was getting to the point where I didn't even want to go to their website anymore, my Styk lust had gotten so bad. But of course, I kept going back...

And then, my perfect bow showed up on their site. It was the length I wanted. The exact riser and limb materials I wanted. The proper grip I like. And the poundage was perfect. It was as though Dick had built my bow for me without knowing it.

And that was all it took for the lust to be taken to the next step - the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

It's very much winter in my little part of the world, but I can't wait to get it outside...

First...gorgeous bow!

I remember my first Robertson back in 1986 or so. I was so thrilled, and I still have that bow today. I remember years later thinking about combining bocote and cocobolo in a riser. Nobody was doing it, and Dick wasn't sure it would look right. The first one I ever saw with these 2 woods looked rather...odd. Later, this combo of woods came into frequent use and is a staple of several good bowyers. I think the cut and style of the Fatal Styk has a lot to do with how nice they work. Very complimentary!

Congrats on your perfect bow.

Thanks, folks. I'm afraid my other bows may be gathering dust...

Funny that people used to think cocobolo and bocote wouldn't work together. Sure works well for my eyes. And I've really become fond of juniper as well - lots of cool variation and warmth to it (and I love that it actually comes from my part of the world).

Holding this bow in my hand, I'm absolutely in awe of Dick's work, and grateful to own a piece of his impressive history.

I'm with you on the Juniper, Just ordered a set of new juniper limbs for my Fox recurve, I think it is going to be sharp.

-not only do those Fatal Styk's look good, they are top performers too...even without carbon in the limbs.
