Brass inserts for XX75 Gamegetter's?
« on: January 29, 2012, 12:14:00 PM »
I found some in 100 grain, but would like some in 50 Grain.  Anybody know if they make them and if so, where could I get them.  I'm shooting Bear Black Bear at 43#. Full length 32" with 125gr tips.  Bareshaft tuning and the arrow is kicking nock right and shooting about a foot left.  I tried 100gr tips and the kick was more and shot even farther left.  I'm thinking the 100gr inserts would be a little much. I'm shooting 513 grain arrow with 12 GPP. I would like to get the arrow weight up a bit as well.  This will be my hunting bow along with my Grizzly at 48#. Thanks,

-Wes

I haven't seen anything except the aluminum or 100 gr. for some aluminums. But at 3Rivers and Kustom King you can get PDP adjustable converta point inserts for certain aluminum shafts the accept add-on weights behind the insert like on most carbons. You can add from 10 grs. to 50 grs. or more if you stack them.

yeah I bought some 50 grain converta inserts from Kustom King, but they are too small for the Gamegetter's.  I'll check their site and see what else they have.

That is an option, but already have the 125 fieldpoints, small game heads, and broadheads.  It would be alot cheaper to just buy inserts.  I guess I'll just buy the 100 grain inserts. If the arrows become too weak, I can cut the shafts down.

Since you're shooting aluminum arrows, cutting them shorter might not be enough to make them stiff enough with those 100 grain inserts.

You might have to go up in spine and shoot a stiffer spined aluminum arrow. But, that will most likely add more overall arrow grain weight.

If that happens, you might want to look into carbon arrows to keep the overall weight down.

I believe you can tap a standard insert, if you have a removable nock system, that can then accept the screw in brass weights, just as carbons.

I've been shooting more aluminums and loven em.

I never thought about that. I may have to look into it. Thanks

Tap the back of your insert with 8/32nd tap and go to the hardware store and buy yourself a 8/32nd's threaded rod. Then cut to desired length(weight)and screw into the back of insert with the point in there so you do not put the rod in to far and then put a drop of loc-tite on the threads and glue your inserts back in your arrows and you are ready to go. Cheap and also fun to experiment which sounds like what you like to do. Hope that helps..Henry

No one has asked so I will, what is your draw length and what size shafts are you using?

My draw length is 29" and I'm using full length shafts right now which is 32.25". I figured I'm pulling around 43#.

FWIW, I bought the inserts which accept the insert weights. There is a 5 gr adapter to match the insert threads and then stack what ever weights you want behind that. I got them for 1916s, 2016s, 2117s and 2219s. Of course tapping the rear of the standard insert and then putting in one piece of threaded rod would be cheaper yet. Amazing the ideas you can pick up on this site!

I was going to order everything for the insert weights, but they were out of the adapter, which you must have. I just got back from the Hardware store and bought some threaded rod and tap.  Thnx for the great idea Prairie Drifter, I'll post my progress.
