Leather Supplier?
« on: February 02, 2012, 10:48:00 AM »
When Tandy's prices became ridiculous i started buying from Siegels of California but they closed up shop.

Any suggestions for another good supplier?

Thanks!

If you find one, let me know!

Tandy pretty much have a monopoly on repeatable quality, average priced leather these days.

You can occasionally luck out & buy on E8ay, but if you're after consistent price & quality, I'm afraid Tandy is the way to go.

I would like to find someone that carries cordovan as Tandy does not.  I just need enough to make a few  tabs - it is impossible to find.

I deal with the Hide House, in Napa, CA and also with Kentucky Leather and Hide. Both have websites, good prices, and great products.

EC leather in Tulsa Oklahoma. It is more of a warehouse than a store front but they will sell to the public. They supply a lot of prisons their leather and also supply Tandy some of theirs.  EC's and Tandy use to be owned by the same folks, way back when.   I'm sure they have a 800 number but I don't know it so here is the local number 918.583.0292.

They don't have a website and the lady that's runs it is a blast if you can handle her ROUGH sense of humor.

I use Zack White Leather.

Google them.

I was in their shop about 6 months ago. One of the workers warned of higher leather prices. Something to do with the demand on cattle dropping.

I live near a Tandy store, you can pay a yearly fee to join something and get a discount, in addition, they sent you monthly or quarterly brochure with current stuff on sale (hides). I don't do it anymore but I could go a sort through hides.

Great store and been bying leather there for years. If your ever close to them swing in and see them you won't regreat it. Great prices and much cheaper then Tandy for the same leather.

Tandy is handy for me and I don't use very much leather for the price to matter.

Brettuns Village is great for online orders, I think they have cordovan, or what they call "south-of-cordovan". Do you have any local harness or saddle-makers? I get mine from a Amish harness shop nearby. Great prices on Whole hides to just pieces. They sell by the pound and this is top quality stuff. Like stepping back in time to visit there.

I usually just go to a harness shop and they have lots of leather in different thickness. We have a lot of Amish in my area and they can make anything from quivers to knife sheaths, or pistol holsters.
