Wensel Brothers
« on: February 08, 2012, 08:16:00 PM »
I met them today at the Harrisburg sports show. Two outstanding fellows who have greatly contributed to our passion.  Great guys to talk to also. It was neat as they were asking me questions to get to know where I came from and where I was at in relationship to traditional archery..  Two thumbs up!

That's a cool experience. I hope I get to meet them someday. Maybe even hunt with them, but that's probably to much to ask. Thanks for sharing!   :campfire:

I can honestly say they are real and fun to hunt with. Was on a pig gig and they were a hoot.

I was there Monday standing in line waiting to get the latest book...

Guy is chatting Gene up in front of me and as he is about to leave, he sticks his hand across the table to shake Gene's hand...

Gene is sitting up to the table on the other side, hands in his lap under the table... so ole Gene never moves his hands, looks at the guy and makes a quip that froze the guy in his tracks!!!

I busted a gut right there behind the guy and he knew he was "had!"   :saywhat:

These two guys are great. Last year at Pig Gig we were in stitches. I never heard such funny stories.Don't tell them I said this but they are really gentlemen, too. Glad I got to hunt with them. Going for third PG in a few weeks.

Colburn, let me know how you do in a few weeks.  The Wensels are great guys.  I remember meeting them over twenty years ago when I was a teen.  Always a pleasure to chat with and are a great influence to traditional hunting.

As I drove up there today I got to thinking that it had been THIRTY years since I first meet them at that very show. They were a HUGE influence on me. Sittin there listening to several other guys my age that came by the booth commenting on what an influence Gene had with "Bowhunting Rutting Whitetails" and Barry with "Bowhunting October Whitetails" I knew I wasnt alone. What these guys have done for the sport simply cant be measured but I am sure glad they take the time to do it and do it with class and a great sense of Humor!!!!!

I'm hunting the second hunt, week of 27th at Sloan Ranch. Anxious to see this ranch. Sounds like it will be pretty good. We've had a very mild winter so far. Hope it stays that way for the hunts. We are due some good weather after last two Gigs. David, that was fun last year.

Bought Barry's book. What a great read.

@Yohon . . I still have an old VHS of "Bowhunting October Whitetails."  Despite all the HD CDs and TV shows available now, I still throw that hunk of plastic in the machine at least once a year for the REAL bowhunting in it.

I met Barry several years ago in Jackson at our Wildlife Extravaganza in August. When I looked around and saw him setting up his booth, he was looking at me already and started laughing. lol  I guess he saw the look on my face when I said "Barry Wensel !!!! "   haha  he was nice enough to talk to me awhile even though he had things to do. Wont find a nicer guy IMO.
