Which Fletching Rig is Best?
« on: July 23, 2007, 11:56:00 AM »
After a frustrating evening of botching the fletching on my arrows with an Arizona EZ fletcher I'm wondering if part of my problem is not using a different fletching rig.  I'm not knocking the Arizona brand, but as a novice I'm finding it a bit difficult to make neat fletching with it. For you experienced arrow makers which fletching rig do you prefer and why?

Thanks for your thoughts.

If your having trouble with the feathers staying in place, try using your string wax and rub it in to the feather groove. That will hold the feather in place. Hap

Bitz jigs are great. Even with older jigs (they haven't changed much) setup is very simple and produces great results.

Hot Hap:

Thanks for that one.... feathers sliding have been an issue lately for me with my Bitz. clamps as I can't seem to get a complete contact along the foot of the fletch.  Maybe it will help.

Bitz is the best as far as I'm concerned. Say gents, I've been using fletch tape for a while now and believe me it's great. You can fletch an arrow with the tape and shoot that arrow within 5 or 6 minutes. No glue to wait for to dry. Best of all, I haven't had any feathers come off yet and I shoot of the shelf. To replace a feather has to be allot better then trying to replace one that's been glued on.  :archer:    :clapper:

Hawgslayer, Blackhawk, is that tape hard to get used to. I haven't used any yet, but have heard from a couple of guys that it is a tad trying at first to get it in place. Any bad experiences early on with you guys?

Well, just to be different, I've made countless dozen arrows with a cheapo ballistics-plastic Bohning jig, which is basically a Blitz in plastic, and it's flawless. I know a professional arrowmaker who uses nothing but the Bohning. I mean, all it has to do is hold a shaft and one feather in alignment. I rank the Blitz and Bohning equally (I've used both), and one is much cheaper than the other. To own his each ... or something like that. Dave

I like my Jo-Jan as I can do a 1/2 dozen at once and do a whole dozen in about 15 minutes if I use super glue. Shawn

I use "bitz" knockoffs that I sell...just as good as the "bitz" and less than 1/2 the price...I've got 3 bitz sitting doing nothing 'cause I like these better. I use "Seal All" for adhesive. Just as good as any arrow glue but cheaper...and it'll fix a leaky gas tank too!!

AS lots of folks have said the Bitz is excellent. My Wife got me a JO-Jan left wing for Christmas & I like it too. I think they are both good. Frank
