If there are any other hog hunting newbies (like me) be sure to check out Terry's "hog shield..." post on the front page of PowWow. Vitals are farther forward than I would have thought.

For you guys that have not had the chance to hunt hogs yet, I'll tell you it can be very exciting if you can get on them. Their nose is better than a deer, their hearing is good but their eyesight is not so good. They can pick up movement but if you stay still when they look your way you can usually get by if they don't wind you. You will be surprised at how fast they can move. This hunt will be a blast. I am gonna have to make this one. Philip

I'm a hog-virgin, they're not an available game species up here.

I've always wanted to travelling to hunt, looks like this'll be a ton cheaper than that 'hypothetical' elk hunt I've always dreamed about....

I have Dave Johnson, Chuck Jones, Strunk, Meigs and Schulz "Hill" style bows, plus a Big Five that is too heavy for me anymore.  May have to get with Brad Gentry and see if I can make this trip with him.  Timing is off, but it's only a job.

I think it'd be nice to show those Northern boys some good southern cookin.

For breakfasts, we could do wild hog bacon and sausage, fresh eggs, and some of my fixed up grits.

For lunches, we could just do something quick, like pulled pork (wild, of course) sandwiches.

For supper, we could do a low-country boil one night, a Brunswick stew the next, and maybe have a variety of wild game the last night. I've got access to a bbq trailer.

Looper,

I am happy to help out with the cooking. I have some dutch ovens and some little experience cooking outdoors. If you want to take the lead on it, I am at your service.

I have a question for you guys, Are you thinking about driving or flying in on Thursday or Friday morning?

I'm going to try to be there on Thursday, this would give me 3 full days of hunting.

It's good to hear that there's a local grocer store in town. That will make things easier.

I plan on taking that whole week off, so I'll probably be there the 17th.

Phillip- those are some very good points.

Wade-thanks for pointing out that hog vitals diagram, those hogs have a thick shield. My opionion is, you need to get a pass-thru, this brings them down fast.
