Hey Guys,
I just got back from Louisiana and Mississippi last night, I was visiting my parents, relatives and some friends that I haven't seen in 25 years. I had a great time, ate some excellent food and drank some real good beer.
The main purpose of my trip was to spend time with my parents but I did have a chance to go hunting one day on a WMA in La. The day before the hunt, I went out scouting and found a ridge that the deer have been crossing so I place my tree stand at one end of the long ridge. Well, about 10:00am I had three bucks coming in. They were all following each other towards the ridge, unfortunately they crossed the ridge further away from where I was, and I couldn't get a clear shot because of the brush and other trees. They didn't pass in the cleared area in front of me.
After the hunt, I got down and looked for a better position for the treestand but realized that the treestand didn't have to be moved. What I needed to do is clear some shooting lanes. I wasn't able to go back out, but I learned this lesson when hunting from treestands, what looks good from the ground, may not look the same from the tree.
I'm looking forward to hunting with all you guys too in Feb. Next week, I'll start the raffle for one dozen Howard Hill arrows with broadheads. One arrow will have HillGang Hog Hunt 2013 written on it. The arrows are valued at $175.00, and will be donated by Craig Ekin of Howard Hill Archery. The money will be donated to St.Jude.
