Well it looks like I will be purchasing a David Miller bow off a member here.  Hopefully it will fit me better than the Shelton I have currently.  Means Im going to be breaking in a new bow on the cusp of the gathering.  Ooooo well.

Troy ,Just a word of Thanks!!    :clapper:    Putting all this info together is no doubt time consuming, but in the end will prove to be very interesting to say the least. With most folks bringing more than just one Hill style the list must be getting mighty big!

After spending some quality time with this 70" 70 lb Jerry Hill, that i picked up not long ago, its official! theres no way this old bow which was born in 1984 is gonna miss the Hill Gang Hog Hunt. She's got just a bit of thump on release, but that in no way takes away from the joy of shooting her.
Some bows are just meant to be hunted with, and i feel that this is one of them, smooth, pointable, hard hitting, with a classic style.
So now the wait begins!    :biglaugh:   [/IMG]

back to page 1.

With all this rain the S/E has been getting, what's the swamp looking like? Can you local guys see any water level increases?

I'm still looking to hook up a carpool if anyone can help out. Headed down from ontario so I can RV with people along the way.... My back won't take 20 hours behind the wheel if I'm going solo so I'd have to fly at that point.

Ross-

You might want to check with Gil, he may want to carpool. I'm sure there has to be others as well that would want to carpool.

Lately I've been thinking how can we capture this Hill Gang Hog Hunt on video. I contacted Jason Ekin who has had some experience with video taping hunts.

The cost to video a hunt is about $250.00 a day, and that's only one camera man. It would be better if everyone does their own recording.

So,I want to ask everyone that comes to the hunt, to please bring a camera/video camera. I want to capture as many stills pictures and video that we can, so we can consolidate it onto one DVD. Then we will have the video narrated. If we can make a quality video, we can package it, and offer it for sale.

When I started shooting Hill bows there was a lot of John Schultz books and videos available for a guy to watch and learn how to shoot. Now, those books and videos are not available, so it's guys like us that need to continue the Hill style bow legacy.

I will have a book setup at the hunt so everyone that's there can sign it, and everyone that participates in the pics/video will receive profits from the sales of the DVD.

Great idea Darren, We will certainly want to capture this event on film. Anything we can do to further the Hill style is time well spent.I don't have much of a camera, but will be taking photos.

By the way, what's the average nightly temps. been down there so far this winter?

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make the hunt this year due to scheduling constraints.  If there is anyone driving to the hunt and going near Ada, Oklahoma, you would be welcome to take my HH halfbreed with you to the hunt for anyone to try out that wants to.  It is 70" long, 52#@28", and is dual shelf so that it can be shot by righties or lefties.  If anyone fills that bill, just pm me and we can work out the details.

It is the bow with the lighter colored tambote riser and lighter colored yew lams.

Well I must admit that I passed this post on the Trad Gang PowWow one too many times because of the Hill Bow title and requirement…However, I finally over the last three days read the full 50 plus pages of posts and information! I could not resist asking if I can join this event? This will be my first Trad Gang Event, but not my first rodeo. It will be my first hunt with a Long Bow, however. As far as I can gather from the info, my bow should qualify,as a Hill style or within the criteria? (It’s a Dan Quillian Bamboo Long Hunter, see pic below). If not, I would like to attend and hunt-along still if you will have me.

Kathy, I have plenty of pork in the freezer if you ever make it out here.  Really wish I could make it out there for this hunt, though.  Too many prior work and play commitments.

Ocmulgee WMA Map

I noticed on the map that there are two campgrounds.  Just for clarification, we are camping at the one by the check station (near the number 2), right?  Also, on the map anyway, it doesn't look like the campground is very close to the river, but based on comments it sounded like it was right next to the river.  How close are the actual campsites to the river?  I'm asking because I'm bringing my canoe.

Hawken1911-
I believe that RC said there was a pond with bass next to the campground. The river is further away. We may get there on Wed.

What day do you plan on getting there?
