Was looking at the long term forecast for hunt area. Said showers thur. and Fri. I suppose that could be good for hunting if it holds true.Just thought I'd mention it.

I would not advise a car. It has rained the last three days solid. It will dry up some but we are talking red Ga. clay. I would bring a thermacell and rubber boots.RC

RC-

I never use a thermacell during the winter months down here, did those skeeters migrate up there during the winter?  :)

I guess it's because I grew up with those skeeters down in Southern Louisiana they have to be really bad to bother me. My bloods not sweet enough for them.

Must be nice Darren, I can be standing with 10 people, no one is being bothered except ol' Knaw. They eat me alive! I HATE SKEETERS! Good thing I bought a TC and enough pads to run it constant for a week.

"I would not advise a car."????

UhOh!  I planned on driving my non-4WD, low ground clearance minivan down because it gets much better gas mileage.  I guess I assumed it was pretty much all paved roads until you got into the WMA, and then it would be gravel roads.  I have a 4WD SUV, but I'd have to do some scrambling to switch some things around a bit for the trip, and it would cost a lot more in gas money.  How impractical is a minivan in that area, and what is the likely hood of having to drive through mud and possibly getting stuck just getting in and out of the WMA and the surrounding area?

Thanks you in advance for insights from the lcoals.

I will ride up tomorrow quickly and see if the loggers have destroyed the road to camp near the check station. With a good many people dropping out the camp ground on tract 1 will be big enough and is a good enough road for a car.Let me check tomorrow to be sure and i`ll post up tomorrow night.RC

Let us know what water levels look like too please. I may need to acquire a pair of hip waders. All I have are knee boots.

Alrighty, I took my Grandson to school this morning and headed up to Ocmulgee. I left my bow at home because I have to pick him up from school today and its a good chance the bow would make me late..lol. It is 100 miles one way.
The River is out of the banks a bit which will help funnel the pigs along the edge of the swamp. Its full enough there will not be many Islands holding pigs. The roads are very good. They put gravel on the ones to camp since I was there last. The campground by the check station was in good shape and a small car will get you there with ease....

If you leave camp and go by the check station...

and past the clearcut on the left...

You will come to this gate. It is closed but you can park and walk to some good spots. The swamp is filling up and these pines between the railroad tracks and the swamp could be good. I got on  pigs in here last year..

RC now you are talking my language. I love hunting walk in areas. I am glad to hear I can bring my car. I have a Prius that gets 45 mpg vs 18 mpg for my 4x4. You just saved me a lot of money.

Getting fired up and can't wait to get there. Are we camping at Campground area 2?

Thanks

If you want to hunt behind the pfa "lake" you will come to this in the road...

Don`t worry it has a hard gravel bottom and is no trouble.

Pigs in the road back here. I did`nt leave the road and found starting spots for a hunt

Yessir Mr. Gil I think tract two would be good. There is another but will have a good bit of traffic on it and if you are like me you want a bit of solitude.

I did walk a bit and check one of my honey holes...and its still sweet. Been near a year since I been here ..

I did go by and old campsite I know of and the rain turned up a piece of a pot left behind...maybe a 1000 years ago or more...

I hope to be there on Monday evening but will have to leave Thursday noon. Hope to meet some of you folks before I have to split. Good hunting and be safe.RC
