Local Range - Pic (cross canyon shot)
« on: February 09, 2012, 03:04:00 PM »
This was a couple of weeks ago at our local range.  Us stick guys meet Sunday mornings to shoot and one shot we call the "cross canyon" shot is about 175 yds (if memory serves) across, well you guessed it, a big deep arrow swallowing canyon.

This was a pic of me that my friend Doug took as I started to elevate for distance.  If you look close just below my arrows in the quiver straight accross from my bow hand, you can see the little white target with the black boar foam cutout on it.

Thought I would share it with you, thought it was a cool pic and a beautiful morning to be out shooting!

Anyone else have cool novelty shots they shoot regularly at the range?  Post pics if ya got em'

What part of CO are you in?  I'm moving to Fort Collins and will be looking for folks to shoot with.

We are pretty spoiled with our nice outdoor range.

So, how close did you come to hitting the target?

We all come pretty close believe it or not...within 5 or so yards of the target butt.

On that particular shot I hit just at the foot of the target butt frame, left side.

We have one club member(shoots a longbow) who dead centered the 10 ring from there....wish I was there to see it...

I went to a shoot last year to raise money for charity.  On one of the novelty shots, we shot at a 2" X 4' high PVC pipe sticking in the ground at about what i would guess was between 90-100 yards (no one would say exactly how far it was).  $1 a shot.  You would be surprised at how close you can get with three arrows to "hone in on it".  We were missing that thing by inches.  We even hit it a time or two.

175 yards with trad gear is like 2500 meters with a rifle! Holy smokes, Batman!

The funny thing is, that I'd probably shoot every arrow in my quiver at this target, since it isn't a hunting situation. Some things are simply fun.

At one of the trad shoots here they had a buffalo set at about 80 yards. As luck would have it...I hit an envelope that had a 20 dollar bill in it. I got to keep the money and it paid for my entry fee    Hey, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then!!

Next Sunday walk the canyon and then sell everyone back some arrows on Saturday. Cool pic

That target sits on a ledge of solid sandstone.  I'll bet that I have shot at that target several hundred times and I have never hit it.  BTW, that canyon is a sheer dropoff of about 100'.
