WoodsyDave, You'll never get your bow on the plane as carrier on. Don't even try.

Anybody with experience in flying up to Canada and checking their bows got any thoughts about this? Does anyone mail stuff up to the outfitter ahead of time?

Dave I have flown to B.C. to hunt and I have a three piece take down, I have a special sock (three part sleeve), that I rap the bow in then rap it in cloths, make sure you have a hard bottom on your luggage, then I just check it in to checked luggage.  I have never had a issue nor my friend that heads out here yearly.  I have made a small case out of a power tool box, this may be the ticket to put inside your checked normal luggage(you can look this thread up under home built TDrecurve case.

Sorry guys, guess I didn't make myself clear. I didn't mean I would take my bow as carry on luggage, I meant as checked luggage.

Thanks Tim, I was thinking of wrapping it in heavy hunting clothes in my big checked bag. It looks like a second checked bag (hard case) would cost another $70 on Delta ($35 each way) I hope to save the $70 without too much risk of bow damage.

Dave make sure you keep all parts seperate, so they don't bang together, the sleeve I have is polar fleece, easy to build buy a two foot x three foot piece of polar fleece, fold in half, lay your bow on top and mark, sew straight lines where your marks are. have enough to fold over and some kind of tie.  roll up and tie to use.

Wish I was going again.  I've been to Manitoba once and Idaho last spring.  Zero'd on both hunts and felt "snookered" by the outfitter on both.  Check for references before you book and please contact the references.  I hope to plan a hunt with Stickfinger in the future but that will have to wait.

Best of luck on your hunts.

Our season opens here April 15th but things don't start happening till well into May.I'm scheduled to hunt Saskatchewan May 13th and when I get back,it will be close to the start of the rut and I'm hoping I will have enough free time hunt fairly hard here.
