My first on traditional.
« on: February 11, 2012, 07:47:00 PM »
Went hog hunting this morning and took two hogs. This is my first animal taken with a traditional bow. I am so stoked. 6 months of practicing and several attempts left me frustrated. I am so happy.

Hog was laying on the ground in the palmettos. I shot and hit the shoulder area. He took off and broke the arrow off. If you look carefully the Muzzy broadhead stud part broke as well the insert. The arrow did not penetrated past 1/2" in the shoulder. I guess  I hit bone. Is this normal?

Great job on the pork! Yes, it is possible for a number of broadheads to break when you hit that shield.

Congrats on your first....and second!

I would think that something wierd happened for the broadhead to break like that. There is not much in a hog the size of those to stop an arrow from a 55# bow. I'm thinking maybe as he was running off the arrow slapped up against something and if the broadhead was solid in bone that is just where it decided to break. Sometimes screwy things happen!

Congrats again,

Bisch

Good for you!  The first cuple are way exciting and make a trad archer happy.  Course i imagine that doesn't stop with many more critters under the belt either.
