I totally - but respectfully - disagree with the notion that because snake boots are hot and/or uncomfortable that you can just be careful where you step and will be o.k. Same with the idea of any leather boot being all right due to many of the really light weight boots available, which I just don't think will turn a bite. I have related a couple of times on the Gang that I stepped on a copperhead a couple of years ago and was very nearly bitten. Prior to that time I was in total agreement that caution was a sufficient safeguard, but that incident nearly turned into a "trouser browning experience". It really scared me, and I ain't afraid of much in our Georgia woods. Now I tell all my friends to wear good snake boots or chaps. My Cabela's work fine, but in really hot weather, I will some times pack in a pair of light and comfortable slip on shoes and wear them in the stand, using the less comfortable boots only when walking to or from the stand. For you stalkers, I still strongly urge you to wear quality snake proof boots. I saw a really convincing demo of Rocky boots not long ago. Part of my great concern about this relates to diabetes. If you have it, as I do, and get bitten, you may very likely lose a leg. Friends be safe and take no chances.
