Look what I seen on my way to work this AM
« on: February 22, 2012, 08:37:00 PM »
Not a big heard and I only see a few a couple times a year. Those are small bulls. I have seen much bigger ones on the fort.

Sorry for the crappy pic it was done on my cell phone. I was rushing they were only about 70yrds or so off the dirt road.

Pretty cool! I was there when they introduced the elk to Fort Riley. I was attached to the fish and game department my last year in the army and that was about the time that the feral hogs started showing up on base. Now that was fun!
Thanks for the memories

Oh I was still in KS and there are some 300+" bulls here. Swamp the elk are still here as the pic shows but the buffalo and hogs are no more.

The buff were moved in 01 and 02 but the hog were shot off because of the damage they were causing.
Yesterday I seen 4 more not far from where I seen the first group.

I took PICs but they are worse then those.

Remember Kelly the drawing for tags is in July. Once in a lifetime Tag.

I personally know of 6 people who have drawn tags to hunt them on the Fort. 5 of them took Bulls off the Fort and one friends daughter took a Cow on private land. They were all killed with rifles though.   :nono:

The nice thing about it is the application fee is only like $5.00. Good Luck

My buddy Jimmy Champagne drew a tag this year.  They filmed him several times on his hunts.  Didnt get any shots.  Eventually shot a bull off post on private land.

Oh they do get off the fort quite often. The best place on the fort is the impact area and you can't hunt that area.
