Sorry Longbows its been fun
« on: February 28, 2012, 07:46:00 PM »
I've come to the sad conclusion that I just plain shoot recurves better, much better in fact it's not even close. Ugh now I sell a few. I'm only going to hold onto my Hill,my Ed Scott and without question my Stalker Renegade, but that bow is a cheater, she really is a recurve with straight limbs. From now on it's a bow with a curve for me. And I will say I love everything about longbows, the straight limbs, how light they are. But I just can't seem to get them to shoot on a level that I demand.

Does this mean you will have to change your screen name to shortstick or mediumstick?

This is something I struggle with.  I just love the look and feel of the Hill style longbows but I have come to the conclusion that I will never shoot them as well as my r/d longbow with the recurve type grip but I may just stick with the Hill style anyway.

Did the same recently - love my longbows but just can't tap with them the way I do with a recurve

Same here. I won't give in. I just shorten my hunting effective range a little.

Yes, I recently inadvertently converted myself to recurves also. They do shoot pretty darn good.

Well, I'm the other way around. I shoot my longbow better and love shooting it more than the recurve. I have to keep a recurve so I can enter more classes at the 3D shoots though!

There is a bow i know of that will give you the best of both worlds....

Nice deep core slender limbs, and curves all in the right places..... you might say they are kinda sassy looking....   :goldtooth:

Recurves arent dark, you have done the right thing, by coming to the conclusion that recurves are what you shoot best, and if you shoot well, it is more enjoyable. I am the same way, shoot way better, with a RC, and am more likely to make a cleaner, more ethical kill on game. Welcome to the LIGHT, MY BROTHER OF THE RECURVE!

It's ok and you'll be ok too...it's all good!!

If it pleases you to shoot ________(fill in the blank)... then you are where you need to be.

I know that there are bows out there that aren't American Semilongbow styles that I can shoot easier but I choose these because...

It's not how the bow feels when I shoot it... but how the bow makes me feel when I shoot it.

You're doing the right thing for you. Kudos!

God bless,Mudd

No problem, this is the justification and joy of owning many different types of bows. I go back and forth all the time. Curves 3, Hills 1, R/d d/r 3 and
pondering on another Hill type.

I shoot them both equally well.  My personnal opinion is that recurves are drop dead gorgeous compared to a longbow.  But there is something about a longbow that calls to me.  I pick up a recurve and shoot for a week or so then it is back to the longbow.  It just feels right in my hand.  I recently made a rule that I will not buy anymore recurves.  I just don't shoot them enough.  Right now my baby is a 69" 58#@28.5" Wesley Special that is a joy to shoot. and doesn't feel any heavier than a pencil in your hand.
