Brace height??

Hey all. I've got a 35 year old Bear Bearcat that I haven't been able to find what the factory brace height is. Anybody out there know?  The bow is 45lbs and has been treated a little rough by the previous owner. Curious where it should be to shoot.

I usually start at around 8" on old Bears and adjust from there.Just make sure the bow is safe to shoot, since you state it's been treated a little rough.

Thanks Huntingnut. I had the guys at my local shop check it out, and they said it is safe to use. Been my bow up until this past week when I got a new one.

Feel like a goober asking this, but how do I determine when the best brace height possible is achieved?  New to bows and still learning.

By starting low and shooting and slowly raise brace after several shots you will pass thru the smooth/quieter area. Go thru it until it gets loud/shocky then back down to the smoothest. With nom silencers helps.  Record it, I put little stickies on the bottom half of riser with all pertinent info like BH, arrow type, pile weight, nock point height. Got a few bows, makes it easier to keep straight

If the Bear Bearcat is a 60" recurve, if my memory serves me correctly, the recommended brace height is between 7"-8".

I shot my Bear's between 7" and 7 1/2". About 2/3rd's of the string grove.
