Grizzly Broadhead?
« on: March 19, 2012, 03:54:00 PM »
How do the new Grizzlies made by Bill at Zipper Bows mount up on a screw in adaptor for carbon arrows? I have heard that the old ones could be a bit of a pain and was wondering if these mount up better.

The old type Grizzlies were a pain. The newer type are excellent with a much improved ferrule.Much easier to mount and get true on an adapter.

Is there a web site for the new Grizzlies or do you go through the Zipper site to get them?

Looks like their new website is under construction, so I would suggest going through the Zipper website.  Give Bill a call, I'm sure he'll get ya taken care of.  Here's the website that's under construction...

I will give credit where credit is due here.  Although I do some work for VPA and absolutely LOVE my VPA heads, if I could no longer buy VPA's I would be using some of the new Grizzly heads.  I looked at them while at K-Zoo and Bill has them really looking good.  By all means, if that style of head is what you're after, don't hesitate to give them a try.

Another question here. I have only seen sharpening tutorials for grizzlies using a KME. Is it possible to just sharpen a single bevel by hand without a KME or some other kind of jig?

Just mounted my new ones today. Glued-up easy. The adapters fit great. They spun out true. Can't wait to have a go at the 160 grain Kodiaks!

Wow!!!  I've been shooting Grizzlies since Jim Abel made them in the early 90's.  I wasn't aware there was a problem mounting them, but I never used them on carbon.

The new ones have the Zipper Bows website on the label and the edge looks wider to me.

So are the Grizzly head and Kodiak different?  Is the Kodiak the new one?

Kodiak is the new name for what used to be called the"El Grande",slightly wider and longer than the standard Grizzly.

I just got mine today...what if they come in plastic container with a foam pad and 6 broadheads and the label says

Grizzly Kodiak
200 GR RB

no website or other comments anywhere...

the ground edges have lots of spots whether paint or stains or something on them...hoping will come off with few strokes of sharpening stone on my Lansky...but I did expect them somewhat sharp out of the package based on comments on new grind and so forth.  Definitely not sharp unless I am just not familiar with feel of single bevel vs double bevel.  Would not slice paper when run down edge like my other heads.

going to work on one all night and see if it gets better.

Brock, they are not hunt ready out of the package. They simply have the bevel ground in them. You have to sharpen them, which shouldn't take you very long.

yeah started already....got one in my Lansky clamp...started about 20 strokes with extra course, then 20 with medium, and 20 with whetstone to finish...but still not sharp...

I noticed at the 25* position my sharpener is grounding the outside half of blade edge..so guessing there is slight discrepency between 25* on my Lansky and what was ground...so going to work it with course until I get a continuous grind on one edge...the work on other side.  I have 3 months until deer season to get them right.  :)
