The rest of our walk was uneventful and we made our way back for some lunch. The knife is one I got at the spring fling. Made by Tony Bell.
That afternoon we parked at the slew and went in opposite directions with plans to meet back at 6 in case one of us had shot something so we could get it out before dark. Weather was good but expected to take a turn for the worse. We both got on pigs but both were busted by the swirling wind. We met back and decided to take stands just off the main road until dark and then hunt the road back to the top of the hill.
When I dropped Jet off he said " It's 4th and goal, everybody go long". I drove on up the the top of the hill and double timed back to my stand. Problem was that feeder had gone off at 4:45 and as I got close I could hear pigs. 10 of them all about 85lbs snipping at each other and bobbing in the water. With that many eyes in front of me, I could only close to about 25+yds. Ive made that shot lots of times. One got like I wanted him and The last thing I remember is my mind saying " That's out there a ways" I hit anchor and elevated a small amount. I fat backed the crap out of that pig. Got my arrow and nothing but lard and hair. As Rick Welch says " Trust Your Bow Arm". Well I kicked myself around some but it was water under the bridge.
Right before dark , I started easing down the road toward Jet's stand. When I got there, I could see him standing. I knew by his actions that he was looking at a pig. Through my binos, I watched him draw and let down 3 times and then BANG. Hit sounded good and I heard pigs going everywhere.
He sat for a min and then stood and started hooking up his bow. I went in to give him a hand. He said i was a good hit. We walked over to his arrow which was sticking out of the mud only about a foot. Thats almost 2/3s of the arrow in the dirt. Jet shoots a set up that most trad guys would frown on but he gets good results. 61lb hoots ant 29" 425gr arrow . silver flame xl's @ 214fps. any way he said he thought he heard the pig crash. about 12 yards into the tracking we found him.
We got back to camp and had a great boston butt that had been on the smoker for 8 hrs.
Next morning we loaded and hit the road. 6hrs later I was home. Hope to get back again soon. Thanks for looking. Don
