I drew the early season. Aug 25-29 & Sept 15-18. I am planning on heading up for 2 weekends before to do some scouting. I am taking my bow & a Rifle. Hopefully be able to get in on one with the bow!!
I have been applying for over 10 years. My mother applied for the first time in 02 & got drawn. my father has applied every year since the Elk hunt began & hasn't been drawn yet. Sometimes its just nuts how a person gets drawn.

Jeff,

I have applied every year until this one; you are one in a million!

Don't take your rifle if you really want to use your bow...it is awful hard not to use the gun; trust me  :(   Maybe go bow only for the first season.  Try and find a farmer that is getting his crops hammered and poke one for him

Jeff,
When you get your list of guides give me a call. I can give you some names to check if your going to go with help. Which I advise. They will help get you on some property and get your elk to the check-in station. I'm bummed though. Haven't gotten ANOTHER tag since 1994 when I drew a tag the first time I applied!

CONGRATULATIONS JEFF!!  It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Use what ever you want, this will probably be your only chance at a Michigan elk. A guy I know drew a permit for a bull some years ago and took one with a pistol.

If you nail one we'll have a cigar and some JB Black to celebrate...my treat     :clapper:

cool tag jeff good luck, we were up there last year and saw several MI elk, didnt seem real hard to locate but we were not hunting them either

I would think a treestand on a cut road might be the thing, there were lots of people driving around looking for elk (locals)every evening, but no one in the early am and the elk knew that.

keep us posted, that is some neat country
