Love feathers
« on: March 24, 2012, 09:49:00 AM »
I am always amazed at the ability of feathers to come back from abuse with a little time and steam.  The other night I was stumping behind the house after work and my mind wasn't really where it should have been.  I missed a stump and couldn't find the arrow.  Yesterday afternoon I combed the area again and found it.  Just 1/4 inch of wrap was sticking out of an old log on the ground.  The arrow had punched through the log, leaving the entire length of wrap and feather in the damp log.

I let it dry overnight

It had come back quite well, but I knew the feathers had more in them.  A little steam.

and back to new.

The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Steam is a very good trick, just be careful if you have wraps or fletch tape on.

That's amazing. And thanks to Mike for the advice on Fletch tape, since that's what I use.
