Shot thru a Chrony......
« on: March 27, 2012, 03:51:00 PM »
Went to a club meeting on Saturday night and for a fund raiser you could shoot thur a chronograph to see how fast or slow your bow was, cost a dollar a shot to raise some funds. I had my Kohannah 2 pc. longbow, 62" 45# @ 28" ,I draw 29". I was shooting full length Poplar shafts 125 gr field tips for a total of 550 gr. That bow shot 153.8 fps which I thought was darn good. What do you think!

I would say that's respectable for 11.5gr per pound.

Best of all if you think it's pretty darn good it's perfect.!

Sounds great!

Problem was the game was guess the speed of your arrow.

Ron nailed his speed down on the first shot, the rest of us didn't play because you cannot improve on perfect.

As long as you hit what you are aiming at and the bow feels good, speed is not an issue.

I know that Bill but I was curious to see what that "D" shaped longbow would do. As it turns out I was pleasantly surprised!! I want shots less than 20 yards [12 or 15 is even better] so for me speed is not a big thing!

I think regardless of what others who brag how fast their bows will say, that is a very respectful speed for the specs and setups you are using.

Sounds about right to me.

I have a chrono and I have had it for years and it is very accurate. I used to be a speed freak back in my wheelie days but now I'm content to just use my chrono for the sake of satisfying my, and others', curiosity(shoot for free through mine if you're down my way sometimes   ;) )  . They can be a handy tool. My specs with arrow speed are in my signature below. Note, I have a fairly short draw.

I just got mine last week and the most interesting thing to me is this:
Bow #1 = +/- 9fps over 10 shots
Bow #2 = +/- 3fps over 10 shots
Bow #3 = +/- 1fps over 10 shots

Any guess which one shoot the best league score for me this year? I think a chronograph is a tool, and I'm glad I have one!

Sometime making them work is part of the pleasure!
And Drew's is working in the daylight
