Longbow Boars in the wet season
« on: March 28, 2012, 10:10:00 PM »
been a while since i have had much time to put anything up here. Hope this finds you all well and gearing up for the season.

I just returned from a few weeks up in Cape York, went to look after a property for a few weeks, but the late wet and huge downpour of rain left me stranded up there for quite a bit longer then i have planned, But i had a couple longbows and a dozen arrow to help pass the time.

here are a few pics from the trip...

just about everything is green this time of year

ahh there is always something neat about examining an arrow after the shot

Let me tell you, you really have to love hunting to fight through the hundreds of mosquito's and march flies up there when the winds drop, i think every pig cost me an ounce of good african blood.

This was the first pig of the trip a sow, out in the green gullys

Then i stared getting into the Boars, this time of year there is abundant water so the pigs travel the ridges, difficult to find and impossible to pattern...

he was a good size Boar

Even though is was mostly overcast the temp where around the low 90s but the humidity was about 95%

I stalked into about 5m from this young bedded boar, shot was good, so i followed up strait away, but i got to close and when he saw me he charged, locked on like a missile, i had to hit the afterburner big time, i was caught a bit off guard and i can really shift over a short distance, be he was right on my heals every time i looked over my shoulder i could just see a blur of black about to bury a tusk into my calf muscles. I had the camera rolling the hole time, but that footage will remain in my personal collection...i wont give you guys the satisfaction of seeing the blur of me running like hell, screaming like a ....

You are killing me Andy!!!! I am in Brisbane now and seeing this really makes me want to jump in the car and head north. I know I can't but a Cape York pig hunt is definitely on my bucket list after seeing from ozy clint and you  how the pig huntin is up there.

Congrats !

The long hair is still there Randy don't you worry about that. Just tied up for the hot weather.

The bow is one I borrowed from a friend here in Townsville, its a home made longbow, I had another bow for the trip but had the string break and did not have a back up, so used the D-shape bow for the trip.

as of the other bow here is the only Boar i got with it before the string let me down, Its a 73lb LonesomeWind Longbow Made by my buddy Vince from Nebraska, its been in the wings to take a buff for some time. It was a gift to me before i had to leave the States few years back... special bow to hunt with.
