Toelke Kestral...
« on: March 30, 2012, 01:17:00 AM »
I made a trade earlier today for a Toelke Kestral, 52", 50# @ 28" (I draw just over 29", so 53# - 54# at my draw...).  It is a one of a kind Kestral, it actually has the Whip's grip on it and a Phenolic riser with quiver inserts installed.  When the previous owner got the bow he sent it to Big Jim for skins and a beavertail grip...  I really wish it was 15# heavier, but I really wanted to try it... been looking for shorter bows for convenience in hunting... Thunderchilds, Hoots etc... Had never heard of the Kestral until this morning, but all the good I've heard about Dan's bows I had to give it a try...  Does anyone else shoot one of these, if so, give me a bit of a low down on what I can expect when it gets here...

Thanks!

Oh yeah, if anyone has a Kanati side mount Angle Pro in black I've got several Selways to trade for in the classifieds or cash if the price is right...

Nice

I'd be interested to see a pic of the bow with you at full draw shooting a 52" bow!

Like you I've been entertaining the idea of a short bow. That's the first of that kind I've seen as well. Looks like a 10" brace height in the last pic. Those skins over black are a great camo. Good luck on you set back quiver which is a fine choice.

I've never heard of the Kestral but I do have one of Dan's Chinook's and one Whip Longbow.  Great bows to shoot and you can't deal with a better man.  He really knows his bows (arrows too).

Best of luck with it.

Dang She's PURDY!  I have a Kodiak Magnum 52" at 58 and I have a beautiful Whip 53#r and it's a pleasure to shoot both.  I have been to Mr. Toelke's twice and shot many of his bows and they were all Sa-WEET to shoot.  You will not be disappointed.  Did I say she was Purdy?
Best of Luck!

Wow!  That is a very cool looking recurve.    That slender riser gives it the old vintage recurve look.

Congrats!

I was at Dan's in 2010 and shot a couple of them a fair bit. I have a 29" draw and there was not a hint of stacking. It's a Toelke, it's going to be well-mannered and it's very fast as well especially with heavy arrows. Read Pete Ward's review on one, it has chronograph results with a wide range of arrow weights.

That's a great looking bow.  I have a 29-inch draw and stacking/pinching would be my biggest concerns, but so far it seems like those are non-issues.

I read the aforementioned Pete Ward review; has lots of good information in it.

Does anyone have a link to Pete's review of the Kestral?

Thanks for the kind words fellas, I'm excited to get it and run it through its paces...
