Caught A King Snake
« on: April 01, 2012, 10:07:00 PM »
At the recent PBS banquet I was just sitting there minding my own business after dinner enjoying the auction.  I had no intention of buying anything, and was just watching the action.

Then the bidding on a gorgeous Fox longbow by Ron King seemed to get hung up at a price that was just too much of a bargain to pass up.  Just like dipping your toe in the ocean, you had better be cautious of riptides hiding beneath the surface.  Before I knew what was happening I was sucked in deep and ended up with one of the most beautiful and unusual bows I have ever seen.

Nice D shape profile with slim lines.

Great looking riser of Cocobolo and black Dymondwood.

But get a load of these limbs from this angle!!

No, that's not an optical illusion.  And it wasn't a case of a bandsaw gone wild.  Ron really let his creative talents overflow...

Even the handle section has a snakey cross section to it with an offset grip.

This is Bow #1 of the new model Ron calls the King Snake.

Wow Joe!  That is one of the prettiest, craziest fiberglass bows I've ever seen!  That wavy limb pattern reminds me of an Osage selfbow pictured in Chet Stevenson's book showing a similar looking bow he made from an unusual set of billets sent to him by Fred Bear.  Very unique.

Joe

That is awsome.  It IS a good thing I was not there.  That is exactly the kind of auction item that gets me in trouble every time.

What a beauty !

Enjoy.

Whip,
I'm sure it shoots just as good as my Fox Royal Crown that you onced owned...I've got a Fox High Sierra T.D as well and I'm certain that this Kingsnake has to be just as sweet shooting as those two? Nice bow Whip !
